More About The Berkey Light
This powerful berkey light system purifies both treated water and untreated raw water from such sources as remote lakes, streams, stagnant ponds and water supplies in foreign countries, where regulations may be substandard at best.
The Berkey Light housing is shatter resistant and virtually unbreakable, made of high impact strength non-BPA coplyester. This plastic is not manufactured with or contain any Bisphenol A.
The Berkey Light filter system does not leach foul tasting plasticizers into your water and will not retain foul tastes and odors from waterborne contaminants. As the system purifies water, it produces the delightful and relaxing sound of falling raindrops.
The included self-sterilizing and re-cleanable black berkey purification elements purify water by removing pathogenic bacteria, viruses, cysts and parasites and by extracting harmful chemicals such as herbicides, pesticides, VOCs, organic solvents, radon 222 and trihalomethanes. They also reduce nitrates, nitrites, sediment and unhealthy heavy metals such as lead and mercury.
**Video Note: The chambers no longer snap together and now just slide into one another

Yes, if there is pink coming through and all your connections are secure and you cannot see any leaks, then the red would be coming through the filters. It means they have reached filtering capacity and need to be replaced.
A priming button for filtering the black berkeys comes with the filters, and is included with the berkey light. The black berkey primer pump would be an additional add-on item, and is available at half price with purchase of the system. You should see this as an option to add it to your system before you add it to the cart.
Since chlorine is the only contaminant in pool/spa water that we know the filters can remove, we can state that it will remove this chemical. If the concentrations are very high, one may need to run the water through the filter more than once to remove it completely. However, as there are many times other chemicals used in pool/spa water, we cannot comment as to the removal effectiveness of these other chemicals, and thus cannot state that we would recommend pool/spa water a source water in case of emergency.
Yes, you can use it without the base and it will be approx 6 inches shorter. Please be aware that you'll have to hang the spigot over the side of a counter, etc so as to be able to get a glass underneath the spigot in this scenario.
