  • I just installed these filters and the water is white and cloudy , I dumped 2 batches , but they have slowed down the filtering to just drops , is this normal because that is too slow for me !

    The white cloudiness is the manufacturing dust washing away. After full priming of both filters (2 minutes of cold water from both sides of the filter), it can take up to 8 full system flushes for the cloudiness to fully dissipate. Some filters just have more dust than others. Please be sure to fill the system all the way to the top so that a full system flush gets pushed through them when going through this process.

  • I Have two black filters in the upper chamber and I want to buy the fluoride filters for the lower chamber. however, I see no way in the lower chamber to connect the fluorite filters to the stainless steel container.
    
    Please tell me how this works.

    These screw onto the threaded black berkey stems that poke from the upper to the lower chamber. So, they actually hang off the black berkeys.

    Any of the systems equipped with the PF-2's will filter arsenic. The black berkeys have also been now tested to reduce it, so both filters would help to reduce it to even higher levels.

    The water from my well have a concentration of around 100 ppb of arsenic. Is Berkey able to reach 10 ppb of arsenic and how long does it take to filter it?
    What kind of material do you use to filter?

    Both the black berkeys and the PF-2's will target arsenic, so getting removal rates this low should not be a problem. For example the latest black berkey tests took arsenic down from 200 ppb to below 2 ppb once filtered.

  • Sorry I asked the second question before- I didn't get to that info on the site (about the ceramics and BBs having their own flouride filters. So, that quesiton is already answered.) But about the flouride filters, if starting out with a smaller amount as in city water, would it completely eliminate it, or get it at least below .7mg/liter? Is there a list on the site to see what contaminants are removed?

    Yes, lower concentrations would be removed to the same specs as listed up to 99.75%. The fluoride filters will only fluoride ions, arsenic, and heavy metals,

  • Dan, I am hearing commercials on another Berkey like product that claims it is the only water filter that removes hydrofluosilicic acid (spelling) which is where we get fluoride in the water. How say you?

    There are 3 government approved fluoride additives to water; sodium fluoride, sodium fluorosilicate, and fluorosilicic acid (aka hydrofluorosilicic acid). All 3 forms dissociate to sodium, fluoride, and silicate ions in water. The PF-2's use alumina oxide which targets the fluoride ions in the water filtering out this fluoride regardless of the approved source additive used. So, in other words, regardless of the source, the chemicals break down into those 3 ions once mixed with water. The sodium and silicate components are not removed by the PF-2's.

    Once the filters touch water the clock starts ticking, so if you used 2 for 2 years, and then switched to the second pair for the next 2 years, then yes 4 would last for 4 years. If you started all at the same time, the time limit would still be 2 years for all 4 filters.

  • I have high levels of naturally occurring fluoride in my well water (7.4 mg/L). Will this filter work to pull that out? So far people have referred me to bone-char or RO systems- but I would prefer a Berkey.

    Yes, the Berkey would be able to tackle this. From the testing: "Testing for fluoride was based on 20-30ppm of the ion in the influent aqueous solution at a flow rate of no more than 3 gpm (11 lpm) per cubic foot of media." 20-30 ppm is relatively equivalent to 20-30 mg/l, which is higher than what you are currently experiencing.

    Tt would depend on how many gallons you are filtering per day. You would want to determine this number and divide it into 1000 (which is the amount of gallons a set of PF-2's last for). I would approximate it between 1 and 1.5 years per set of 2.

    No, just please back them off the the 8 revolution mark. Their may be some extra manufacturing dust if you hit the pellets, but this will wash out with some re-priming if you notice this.

  • We were going to purchase the Crown Berkey filter. Is there a wire stand available for this system?

    No, there is not a wire stand available. As an option some customers purchase 6" high, 3 or 4 legged wooden plant stands. These are strong enough to support the water weight.

  • Why would I need to buy the extra flouride filters? Doesn't the black filters take out the city flouride?

    No, the black berkeys filters do not remove fluoride, and hence why you would need the additional filters to take care of this.
