Details

The Black Berkey purification elements are the leader in water purification, and have been tested by State & EPA accredited laboratories to exceed EPA 7 ANSI / NSF (Std. 53) protocol. (Scroll Down For Contaminant Removal List) Lab Test Results Found Here

Black Berkey Purification Elements are more powerful than any other gravity filter element currently available. In fact, the Black Berkey purification elements have been tested with more than 10,000 times the concentration of pathogens per liter than is required by standard test protocol. This concentration of pathogens is so great that the post filtered water should be expected to contain 100,000 or more pathogens per liter (99.99% reduction - the requirement for pathogenic removal). Incredibly the purification elements removed 100%. Absolutely no pathogens were cultured from the effluent or were able to be detected, even under an electron microscope, setting a new standard in water purification.

No need for expensive disposable filters that need replcaement every couple months. Black Berkey purification elements are re-cleanable during their 6000 gallon lifetime. When the flow rate decreases simply brush the Black Berkey purification elements with a ScotchBrite pad under running water, reinstall and your system is again ready to purify water. Each durable and efficient purification element will last for up to 3,000 gallons (6,000 gallons per set of two) and provide years of efficient water purification. What's more unique is that the Black Berkey purification elements are self-sterilizing.

What's the difference between the Black Berkey Filters and the Ceramic Filters?

Black Berkey purification elements are so powerful, they can remove food coloring from water without removing the beneficial minerals your body needs. Virtually no other filtration element can duplicate this performance. Perform this test on your black berkey filters at any time to ensure your filters are operating to design specifications. Note: Black Berkey purifying elements are upper chamber elements. They do not work simultaneously with upper chamber Ceramic Super Sterasyl elements. Only one technology is designed to operate in the upper chamber at a time. These filters will work in the British Berkefeld systems and other many other gravity water filter systems on the market.  They can also be chosen as a upgraded filter to replace the ceramics.

Berkey Warranty

Black Berkey purification elements have a 2 year prorated warranty calculated in 6 months intervals. The manufacturer will replace or repair any product that it deems is not properly functioning during the stated warranty period.

BigBerkeyWaterFilters is always at your service to assist you with any warranty claims, send you replacement hardware free of charge if needed, or provide system maintenance support during the life of ownership.

Note: Some Black Berkey filters may come with a small dimple or chip off of the top filter.  This does not affect the performance, filtration efficiency, or life of the filter in any way.  As a result, it would not be covered under the warranty as it is not considered defective.  This can be verified by performing a red food coloring test on the filters to test them.

Product Questions

When you mentioned to Nancy that the Black Berkey or filters like the Black Berkey have an affect removing the Microcystin what does that mean? Do you think the Black Berkey removed enough of the Microcystin to render the water drinkable? Where do I find these study results of the filters with similar ingredients? And will these results tell me if the water they produced is drinkable or not? I just purchased a Berkey Travel and want to know if it will help my situation with the Microcystin here in Toledo , Ohio that's all.
Thanks, and I look forward to hearing what you have to say.

I have a Big Berky. What size filters do they take? I have some in my shopping cart but am unable to tell from the description, how tall these are.
thank you!

Do the black berkeys remove flouride?

I'm thinking about getting this for an emergency water situation where we may have to use rain water, water from a creek, water from an unfiltered well, snow that is melted etc. With water from these sources, would I need to boil the water first before putting it in the Berkey just to be safe? Thank you!

How do you know when you've used 6,000 gallons and need to replace the filters?

How do I clean these water filters?

Does black Berkey remove arsenic or I need to buy the fluoride filter?

Do the replacement filters come with a primer?

What is the shelf life for the Black Berkey filters if you want to store them for future use?

Do the black filters have alumina in them? What's the process of filtration?

Would cutting a section off the top of a filter make it inoperable? I need to make a smaller system for use in a small motorhome and the personal use Berkey will not yield enough for two people and several pets for a day. My Berkey Light is too large for the space I have in the RV.

We have a 200 gallon hot tub that we always thought could be used as an emergency water source if needed. However, I've seen posts online indicating that this water would be full of bacteria and even if boiled first would not be drinkable. I just purchased a Travel Berkey with the additional PF-2 filters. Would this be sufficient to filter the hot tub water directly?

Hi does t filter out high copper and metals to a safe level?

We sometime spend up to 6 months in Arizona. I understand they have to remove salt from the water in this area. My question is does the Burkey remove salt from water?
-9
Why are the filters only good for 6000 gallons per set of 2 ? If the filter is still filtering and passes red food coloring test isn't it still good even after 6000 gallons ?
-13
When cleaning our Berkey, we noticed algae growing on the outside of the black filters of our Big Berkey. What causes this and should we be concerned? (Admittedly, our filter elements had not been cleaned in over 5 months, so maybe that is the cause.)

Will the SS Royal Berkey with the black filters only remove lead from the water.
-29
Can I prime the filters once a month as part of a regular cleaning routine or is it not advisable?
-33
I noticed a floride taste in my water from Berkey, I am the only person who uses it had it over a year. I saw water leaking from one of the black filters from the top chamber to the bottom. Do I need new filters or do I have another problem?
-62
I have a Big Berkey & love it. I've been having to use a veggie peeler once a month on the black filters so water filters through again.
I'm starting to see an indent on the filter. Over time, how will I know when I've removed enough that replacement is in order?

Thank you.
