
Coronavirus Fears Resulting in High Demand

Due to Coronavirus (COVID-19) fears, we are experiencing a significant increase in demand of all our Berkey water filter systems and replacement filters. Until confirmed cases in the US slow down, we do not anticipate this changing.
Berkey systems are used often for emergency preparedness, and as a result the current situation is resulting in dwindling inventories, high demands on our customer service, and long shipping delays. We are working overtime to respond to all inquiries and typically e-mails are being responded to within 2-4 hours. All items available for sale are in stock, and we ARE NOT selling product we do not have at the warehouse in Colorado. Once you make the purchase on our site, it reserves that product for you.
UPDATE 2/29/2020
We sincerely appreciate your patience as we are still experiencing the highest demand in the history of the company. The warehouse is experiencing shipping delays but is working as fast as possible to ship orders and in short, we are very overwhelmed! We ARE NOT allowing for the sale of a product that we do not have in inventory. So if you've already ordered, your system is reserved and is simply waiting in the shipping queue to get out the door. If a product is shown in stock on our website (www.bigberkeywaterfilters.com), it means we still have them available at the warehouse for purchase.
Imperials and Crowns are currently sold out (some of these orders are still at the warehouse awaiting shipment). The Big and Royal Berkey's are going quickly and we expect them to sell out within the next 24-48 hours.
Again, we appreciate your patience and bearing with us as we try to accommodate this surge. Once your order ships, we will update your order status and send you the tracking details. UPDATE 3/6/2020
We are diligently shipping from the warehouse, but there are still delays. We reiterate our earlier statement that if you have already ordered, your products / Berkey system, etc are reserved at the warehouse and we are just awaiting the actual shipment. We received some more bigs and royals this week, but they will be sold out again within the next 24-36 hours. We do not have a estimated timeline on the receipt of the next systems shipment.
UPDATE 3/11/2020
Since February 20th, sales have increased from 300% normal volumes to over 1200% normal volumes. As imagined, this is still causing significant delays at the warehouse and shipping delays continue to increase as a result. The warehouse has added additional lines, is working overtime, and 7 days a week. Shipping time for new orders placed is approx 13-20 business days at this point in time. We currently only have travel berkeys, berkey lights, and scratch and dent systems in stock. We do not expect additional inventory for approx 6-10 business days.
UPDATE 3/17/2020
Sales are still surging at 2000%+ normal volumes, the highest in the history of the company. We are still accepting orders for product we currently have in stock at the manufacturer's warehouse. These are scratch and dent systems, the Go Berkey Kit, Black Berkeys, PF-2's, and some accessories. We do not have a date on Brand new Berkeys being available yet. The warehouse is committed to shipping your order as quickly as possible, however current shipping time for new orders placed is estimated at 15 - 20 business days.
UPDATE 3/19/2020
We are suspending taking new orders systems and replacement filters for at least 24 hours. Our customer service and order processing staff are simply unable to keep up with the demand, so we are taking a hiatus on new orders until our service teams can reduce their backlogs. We still have scratch and dent berkeys, black berkeys, and PF-2's in stock and we plan on them being made available for purchase again tomorrow 3/20/2019. (edit: Order suspension extended until late 3/23) Also as a reminder, all orders we have taken to date are for items we currently have in stock. We DO NOT take orders for items we do not have in stock.
We also please respectfully ask that you do not e-mail / call us for order shipment updates if you are still below or within the 15-20 business day shipping window. We do not have the ability to speed the shipping times at the warehouse as they are working at full capacity and we will update your order with the tracking once we receive the shipment notification. We completely understand that this is frustrating for you and that you are in need of your Berkey products as soon as possible, and for this we do apologize. We wish we could provide you the same level of customer and shipping service that we are accustomed to on a daily basis, and we've been doing what we can to ramp up operations over the past 4 weeks, but our facilities are just not built for these unprecedented levels of demand.

Thank you for your patience. All our teams are caught up and we've verified our remaining available inventory at the manufacturer's warehouse. Blemished systems have been turned on for Travels, Bigs, and Royals (approx 50 of each). New Travels are available (approx 75). Limited amounts of new Bigs and Royals are available (approx 25 of each). Black Berkeys and PF-2's are once again available (sufficient quantities).
Shipping times are still very long and have increased. We would estimate that orders placed today will not ship for 20-30 Business days based on the Colorado warehouse backlog. Here's the latest note from the manufacturer on shipping delays.
UPDATE 3/30/2020
We are out of all systems again. We may be getting some small amounts again in a couple days, and we will update the site when this happens. On the product page of the product you are interested in you can enter your email in the "Subscribe to back in stock notification" field, and you will be automatically notified when they are back in stock. The warehouse is still operating extra shifts and 7 days a week, and we will keep this blog updated on any changes in ship timelines. They are doing what they can to make them shorter.
Important Note on Address Changes and Cancellations:
If you need to cancel your order due to changing financial conditions or require a change in shipping address, we are happy to assist. However, please be aware that if you are within a 72 hour estimated window of shipping, we may not be able to catch/change it. This is simply due to the fact that the warehouse staff is fully dedicated and focused on getting shipments out the door and does not have the extra staff to assist with admin/order changes. Catching an order to make an address change or cancel when it is close to shipping is very difficult with the extremely high volume. We have many customers who are moving locations due to quarantine, etc, so address change requests are already very high. We will do everything we can to accommodate your needs, however those orders that are close to shipping may not be able to be caught before going out the door. Thank you for understanding.
UPDATE 4/2/2020
Here's the latest on shipments and how operations are being impacted by COVID-19.
The Good - The warehouse is located in a rural part of Colorado (away from COVID-19 hotspots). Due to Berkey being considered an emergency preparedness item, the warehouse has been given an essential service declaration and will be permitted to operate for the foreseeable future.
The Bad - The warehouse must adhere to social distancing guidelines and thus is limited to the amount of staff it can have working at any given time. In addition, local authorities have enacted curfews, thus cutting and limiting extra shifts. This will not slow the warehouse down and it will maintain it's current pace, but it does limit most of the plans for trying to increase output at that facility.
The largest spike in sales demand started 3/10, peaked on 3/12, and slowly came down through 3/19, at which point we turned off accepting new orders. This means that if you placed an order from 3/10 - 3/19, you are in the thick of it. The warehouse has started shipping orders from 3/10 and is now starting to work these orders. While hard to predict, I would allow for another few (2-7) business (M-F) days on top of the estimate you were provided in the past for your order to ship.
Future Plans - The setup of a larger and more tech advanced warehouse has been underway for about a month and should launch within the next few weeks. This will allow for much faster turnarounds in shipments, regardless of surges in demand. While we hope COVID-19 is in our rear view mirror soon, this provides us a better facility to serve our customers as we operate in this new environment.
Again, I want to express my deepest thanks to all of you who have been so patient and understanding throughout all of this. I've said it before and I'll say it again, we are just as unhappy with the delays in shipments as each and every customer we speak to via phone, e-mail, or social media, and we will do everything we can to try to accommodate your needs as we go.

We've made some systems available for purchase on the site again. There are not many available, and the shipping time on these is still approx 4-6 weeks out.

Existing Customers - The warehouse is still working orders on the timelines described above with some orders falling slightly behind. This still has everything to do with the large spike of orders that came in from 3/10 - 3/19 as mentioned in an earlier update. The warehouse is off today, but rest assured we are on working with them everyday to help push orders out as fast as possible.
Potential Customers - We promise to update the site immediately once systems become available, so please sign up for the 'out of stock notifications' on the page of the product/s you are interested in.
When we get customer order cancellations, we let them accumulate for a bit and then make that product available for purchase again. The problem is, we're not getting many cancellations freeing up these reserved systems as of late. However, we are waiting on a large shipment of berkey systems that will hopefully accommodate a good portion amount of you on the waiting list. We will post an update here once that happens, along with the 'in stock notification' that will go out to your e-mail.
UPDATE 4/22/2020
The warehouse is chugging along and as mentioned earlier is still behind estimates for some orders. The spike of orders from mid-March has taken longer to get out the door than anticipated. Blemished systems are affected as well as they are re-inspecting all units before they ship given the fact that they are blemished. This is adding more days onto these orders as they have approx 2000 they are working through.
As always, we do thank you for your business and truly appreciate your patience. This has been very tough on our staff and warehouse requiring long stressful days and weekends with no time off since late February. More importantly, we know many of you are needing these systems and replacement filters urgently and it's been tough on you and your families as well. We'll continue to keep our noses to the grindstone until we're all caught up. These are not-so-fun circumstances we are living in nowadays, but we thank for your support. :)
UPDATE 5/8/2020
Just a quick note that orders are still significantly delayed and many orders from Mid-March to late March as still in the queue for shipping. This is primarily blemished systems for reasons mentioned in earlier posts. So if you ordered a blemished and are still waiting a shipment notification, rest assured we will be getting this to you as soon as we receive them from the warehouse. We also do not anticipate having any more blemished systems available for purchase for at least another 2 months.
New stock of Travel, Bigs, and Royals have arrived at the warehouse and are now available on the website. These will go into the shipping queue if ordered, so please expect shipment delays for any new orders placed. We are also out of PF-2 fluoride filters and do not anticipate these to be available again until June at the earliest.
UPDATE 5/22/2020
We are happy to say that we are at the tail end of catching up on all Berkey system backorders, including blemished systems. Website system inventory that we show available will now begin to ship from the new quick-ship warehouse in 2-5 business days. For example, currently we have the Travel Berkey system available, and this will ship from this new warehouse.

Hi Dan, I've been on your stock notification email list as a potential customer for your Imperial Berkey System for several weeks now. I understand from your previous comments that it was not a matter of production or inventory but a matter of shipping the huge number of orders that you currently have. You also mentioned early last month that you have a new warehouse which is being opened that will help alleviate the backlog. I ordered my replacement filters March 16th, which is in the bubble. If it takes another month to receive my filters, I am okay with that. Keep your staff safe and healthy, and thankyou for maintaining quality in production of the very filters that will keep my family safe as well.
I purchased a Royal Berkeley Water Filter and was so excited to not have to buy water anymore. My family has been drinking either distilled at home water, water bought from a reverse osmosis water store,or bought Glazier reverse osmosis water from a machine in my town where the machine is serviced on a regular basis and date placed on front of machine for 36 1/2 years. I waited a month or longer to get my Berkeley even though it was in stock when I ordered it. Was so excited the day I got home and it was there. Read the instructions throughly a couple of times , set it up per instructions and could hardly wait for it to filter so I could taste it and drink a glass full. MUCH to my disappointment it tasted like faucet water. Wasn’t expecting that. The reverse osmosis water has No Taste at All. All the reviews I read hear said it tastes so clean and fresh, best water they ever tasted. Needless to say I Am Extremely Disappointed in the taste. Is it suppose to taste like the water you use in the filter. I thought filtering out all the bad things it would taste clean and fresh like the reviews people said. Do you have any suggestions? Did I do something wrong?

Yes, we apologize for the shipping delay. You product was in stock when you ordered and was delayed due to high backlog at the warehouse.
As for the taste, the taste of Berkey water is not something we can claim "tastes great" or can guarantee. This is for a few reasons:
1) Taste is subjective. One person may enjoy the taste of hard water because they grew up on it, while someone else may like the taste of soft water.
2) The Berkey adds nothing to the water to influence the taste, it only removes chemicals and contaminants that can/may be influencing the taste; like removing the chlorine taste of city water, etc.
3) Once the chemicals and contaminants are removed from the water by the Berkey, you are left with just the mineral content as nature intended it, and this is what you are tasting. However, everybody's mineral content of their water is different, as it depends on what the source is, which is influenced by your environmental surroundings.
4) Reverse osmosis removes the minerals from the water, thus removing their taste influence. That's what your RO has no taste at all. However, many believe it is not healthy to drink mineral free water for extended periods of time (another debate that is ongoing)
So in your case, you can try to influence the taste of your water by adding minerals post filtration if desired. First, we would perform a TDS (Total Dissolved Solid) test to make sure your TDS readings are not too high (<500). Then add a mineral supplement of your choice, and test the TDS again to make sure it's in a safe range. If so, and it improves the taste of your water, then that can be a long term solution for you.
Also, we would also suggest you take some time to give the new filtered water a chance. You may find that you get used to it and start to enjoy it rather quickly. We find this happens often with customers who come from RO systems and were not used to having a mineral taste to their water.

Sales volume in March ranged from 10-20 times normal volumes. To put that in perspective, if sales volume doubled, the warehouse would take a big hit and shipping times would be delayed.
So, the combination of a 10-20 times volume increase, combined with staff and shift limitations required by the local government (social distancing, curfews, etc), results in extreme shipping delays. Many Amazon warehouse are robot automated, and they are still having to delay the majority of their shipments due to high demand and prioritizing of items. That's the most advanced logistics operation in the world. Now imagine how a small warehouse in rural Colorado staffed by local towns folk is coping.
Customers have emailed advising us to ignore the government's staff and social distancing requirements. However we must not forget that given that the warehouse has exempt status, we are really blessed to be able to stay operational during this time. We want to keep the staff safe, your shipments unexposed, and stay up and running throughout this quarantine.
We do have another warehouse coming online soon, and this will be a big help.

Production is not the biggest issue, although demand is currently definitely outpacing production. The largest issue has been the warehouse not being able to ship what's in inventory. So, the warehouse had large reserves of inventory, but just not the ability to get it out the door when all ordered within a very short period of time. With the new warehouse being opened, this will alleviate that problem within the month.

Got my system and so happy! It def took a while to get, and at times I was worried I was getting scammed. I called and e-mailed a couple times checking on my order status and Jenny and Toni were both very courteous and helpful. So, I wanted to thank you for everything you are doing. Seeing our traffic volume start to increase significantly mid Feb, and then spike in waves as news came out and the public's perspectives shifted has been interesting to watch from a data perspective. We've used this data in an attempt to help us try to mitigate the fallout from this overwhelming demand, but it's been a difficult road so far, as I'm sure all who read this can relate to.

This would be a great time to enforce a household maximum on your systems/filters so there is enough to go around for all of us. For example, someone above is saying they bought 6 systems which means all of those also came with new filters, and now they want to order more water systems for friends - how is there supposed to be enough for everyone if those who can afford to hoard all the supplies? It would be the same profit for your company but with more evenly distributed products during a global crisis, should be high priority.

That's a good point, and fortunately we have not really had an issue with this. Large orders have only comprised 1-2% of all total orders, and we have limited those large orders to no more than 4 systems and/or 8 sets of black berkeys.
This is excluding 2 orders for charitable organizations that were slightly larger than this.

I just received my Travel Berkey. I went to put it together and found it was not shipped with the black filters. I received fluoride filters in its place, but that is not what I wanted. I would not have ordered the system had I known I would not receive the filters that are normally included with the system.
