Seal Unused Filter Holes

A blocking plug closes any hole in the upper chamber that doesn’t hold a filter, so water can only reach the lower chamber through your filters.

Every system ships with the plugs it needs. Order here to replace a lost or worn plug or to keep a spare.

How Many You Need

One Plug for Every Open Hole

  • Imperial Berkey: 4 plugs with 2 filters
  • Crown Berkey: 6 plugs with 2 filters
  • Travel Berkey: no plugs, it holds 2 filters
Frequently Asked

Blocking Plug Questions

What does a blocking plug do?

It seals an unused filter hole in the upper chamber so water can only reach the lower chamber through your filters.

Is this one plug or a pair?

One plug. They’re sold individually, so order one for each open hole you need to fill.

Which systems does it fit?

The Big, Royal, Imperial and Crown Berkey. The Travel Berkey holds 2 filters and has no open holes. It does not fit the Berkey Light.

Can I add more filters later?

Yes. Remove a plug and install a filter in its place. Keep the plug in case you go back to fewer filters.

How do I clean it?

Wash it with warm soapy water. For mineral buildup, soak it in vinegar, then rinse.

Why is water leaking around a plug?

Make sure the plug is seated flat and snug in the hole. Replace a plug that is cracked or worn.
