Berkey Priming Button
Primes Black Berkey and PF-2 filters at your faucet
Tan foam rubber button • Seals the filter stem to the faucet • Replacement part
Replace a Lost Priming Button
The priming button is a small foam rubber ring that sits on the filter stem and seals it against your faucet, so tap pressure pushes water into the filter.
A priming button comes with every set of Black Berkey elements. Order one here if yours went missing or you want a spare on hand.
Key Benefits
Tight Faucet Seal
The soft foam presses against the faucet so water goes into the filter instead of around it.
Full Flow From Day One
Priming fills the filter with water so it starts at full flow once it is installed.
Reusable
Keep it with your system and use it again when you re-prime filters after cleaning.

Prime at the Faucet
Hold a firm seal and bring the water up slowly. When the filter sweats beads of water for about a minute and the water runs clear, it is primed.
- Loosen the wing nut until its top sits about 1/8 inch below the top of the stem
- Set the priming button on the wing nut so it sits slightly above the stem
- Hold the stem and press the button firmly against the faucet
- Turn on cold water slowly and build to a moderate flow
- Prime until the filter sweats beads of water for about a minute
Priming Button Questions
Doesn't a priming button come with my filters?
Yes. A priming button comes with every set of Black Berkey elements. Order one here only to replace a lost button or keep a spare.
Which filters does it work with?
Black Berkey elements and PF-2 fluoride filters.
How do I use it?
Loosen the wing nut so its top sits about 1/8 inch below the top of the stem, set the button on the wing nut, then press it against your faucet and slowly turn on cold water. Prime until the filter sweats beads of water for about a minute.
Can I prime without a faucet?
Yes. With the button on the stem facing up, press the mouth of a bottle of filtered water against it and squeeze until the filter sweats beads of water. For priming with no faucet at all, the Black Berkey Primer hand pump is easier.
Do I need the Black Berkey Primer too?
No. Use either the priming button or the Black Berkey Primer, not both.
Why won't my filter prime?
It's usually the seal. Check that the wing nut is set about 1/8 inch below the top of the stem, press the button firmly against the faucet and raise the water pressure slowly.
