"Tortuous Path" Pore Structure
The filter element features a unique "Tortuous Path" pore structure—a complex network of microscopic channels that force water to take a winding route through the filter media. This extended contact time maximizes contaminant removal.
As you squeeze the bottle, source water is forced through the filter. The quality, volume, and specific media composition have been carefully calculated to achieve optimal flow rate and maximum removal of toxic chemicals from industrial and agricultural pollution.
Dual-Action Filtration Process
Adsorption: The filter media removes contaminants through a surface phenomenon called "adsorption"—the molecular attraction of pollutants to the media surface. This process physically traps contaminants within the filter structure.
Ionic Absorption: The filter element is impregnated with proprietary absorbing media that promotes ionic absorption of dissolved pollutants. This electro-chemical process is particularly effective for removing heavy metals like aluminum, cadmium, chromium, copper, lead, and mercury.
Filter Capacity & Lifespan
The Sport Berkey filter's lifespan depends on your water source. Cleaner municipal water allows for more refills, while untreated outdoor sources require more frequent replacement.
Care & Maintenance
🚰 First Use Setup
- Fill the Sport Berkey bottle with water
- Screw on the cap and tighten securely
- Pull down the lever to expose the straw
- Squeeze water through the filter and out the straw
- Repeat flushing process twice to remove process dust
- Rinse the bottle and cap—now ready to use!
🧼 Regular Maintenance
- Rinse the bottle and cap regularly with clean water
- Clean the exterior with mild soap and water as needed
- Do not store filled bottle on its side or upside down (prevents leaks)
- Keep track of refill count to know when replacement is needed
📦 Long-Term Storage
If not using the Sport Berkey for an extended period:
- Flush with chlorinated solution (1/4 tsp per half gallon water)
- Allow to dry thoroughly with cap removed
- Reassemble and store in a cool, dry place
- Shelf life when properly stored: 50 years
- Do not allow the Sport Berkey to freeze
- Do not place in a microwave oven
- Do not run hot water through the filter
- Do not store filled bottle on its side or upside down

Warranty & Support
The manufacturer warrants this product to be free from defects in materials and workmanship for 6 months from the date of purchase. The manufacturer will replace or repair any product that is not properly functioning during the warranty period.
Note: Used Sport Berkeys are not eligible for a refund, however, they are still covered under the warranty as noted.
