Berkey Filter Priming Kit (FPK)
A basic priming and testing kit for Black Berkey filter elements. Includes faucet attachment tools to help force water into filters for priming, plus testing supplies. This kit is included with all Berkey systems.
What's Included in the Kit
Prime Rite™ Universal Primer
Faucet attachment tool that connects to your tap and filter element. Helps force water through the filter using faucet pressure to properly prime Black Berkey elements before installation.
Prime Rite™ Fluoride Element Adaptor
Specialized adaptor for priming PF-2 fluoride and arsenic reduction filters. Ensures proper activation of fluoride filters before installation.
Anti-Airlock Clip (Vapor Lock Clip)
Prevents air bubbles from forming in filter stems, ensuring consistent flow rate and proper filtration performance.
Red Food Dye Vials (2)
Test your system's filtration capability. Add red dye to upper chamber—if filtered water comes out clear, your Black Berkey elements are working properly.
What This Kit Helps You Do
Prime Your Filters
The faucet attachment primer helps force water through Black Berkey elements before installation. This saturates the filters, opening up the pores and pushing out manufacturing dust.
Test Filter Performance
Red dye test vials provide visual confirmation your filters are working. Add dye to upper chamber—if filtered water is clear, your elements are functioning properly.
Prime PF-2 Filters (If Using)
Fluoride element adaptor works with the faucet primer to prime PF-2 fluoride/arsenic filters. Only needed if you're using PF-2 filters with your system.
Prevent Air Lock Issues
Anti-airlock clip prevents vapor lock in filter stems, ensuring consistent flow rate. Helps maintain proper filtration performance over time.
How to Use Each Component
🔧 Prime Rite™ Universal Primer
For Black Berkey Elements:
- Attach primer to your faucet
- Connect Black Berkey element to primer
- Turn on faucet to force water through filter
- Continue until water flows freely from top of element
- Repeat for each filter element
💧 Fluoride Element Adaptor
For PF-2 Filters:
- Attach adaptor to PF-2 filter stem
- Connect to faucet primer tool
- Attach primer to faucet
- Turn on faucet to force water through PF-2 filter
- Continue until water flows freely
📎 Anti-Airlock Clip
Prevents Vapor Lock:
- Attach clip to Black Berkey element stems
- Prevents air bubbles from blocking flow
- Ensures consistent filtration rate
- Leave installed during normal operation
- Especially helpful in humid climates
🧪 Red Food Dye Test
Verify Filter Performance:
- Fill upper chamber with water
- Add red food dye to upper chamber
- Wait for water to filter through
- Check lower chamber—should be crystal clear
- If dye passes through, replace filters
Included with Systems: This kit comes standard with all Berkey water filtration systems. If you need a replacement kit or additional priming tools, you can purchase separately.
Compatibility: Designed specifically for Black Berkey filter elements and PF-2 fluoride filters. Not compatible with ceramic filters or shower filters.
Requires Faucet: The Prime Rite tool attaches to your faucet and uses water pressure to force water through filters for priming.
