- Remove the upper chamber from the lower chamber and set the lower chamber aside. Empty any remaining water from the upper chamber.
- Unscrew the wing nuts from the threaded stems of the existing filter elements inside the upper chamber. Remove the old elements and discard or store for testing purposes.
- Prime the filter elements before installing. All new Black Berkey and Phoenix elements include the PrimeEasy primer. Attach the PrimeEasy to a standard faucet and press each element's stem against it, allowing water to flow through until water beads consistently across the entire exterior surface of the element, about 1 to 2 minutes per element.
