Sport Berkey Questions
Does the Sport Berkey reduce fluoride?
No. The Sport Berkey can't hold a fluoride filter. For fluoride reduction, choose a Berkey system with PF-2 filters.
Does it reduce arsenic?
The Sport Berkey filter has not been tested for arsenic, so we don't have data on it.
When should I replace the filter?
After 640 refills from municipal or well water, or sooner if the flow slows. You don't need a spare filter up front; the Sport Berkey Replacement Filter is sold separately when you need it.
Can I pour water out instead of using the straw?
No. The straw connects to the filter inside the bottle, so you drink through the straw.
Can I take it through airport security?
Yes, as long as the bottle is empty.
Can I add flavor packets?
Yes. Flavor packets won't damage the filter.
How do I care for it?
Rinse the bottle and cap regularly and wash the outside with mild soap. Don't freeze it, microwave it or run hot water through the filter, and don't store it full on its side or upside down.
How do I store it if I won't use it for a while?
Flush the filter with a mild chlorine solution (about 1/4 teaspoon per half gallon of water), let the bottle and filter dry fully with the cap off, then reassemble and store it in a cool, dry place.
