Why people stop trusting the tap
It looks clean. It tastes fine. That is not the same as knowing.
- Notice a chlorine smell, a metallic taste, white scale on the kettle, or blue-green stains in the sink? Those are the signs you can see. Most of what matters, you can't.
- Municipal treatment is built to disinfect, not to remove everything. Chlorine, chloramine and fluoride are added on purpose and stay in the water that reaches your glass.
- Lead enters after the plant, from the service line in your street and the pipes in your house. PFAS "forever chemicals" now show up in the tap water of most Americans.
- Your water can meet every federal standard and still carry what you would rather not pour for your family.

How the Big Berkey protects you
Purification, not just filtration. With no plumbing and no power.
Reduces 200+ contaminants
Independent lab testing shows greater than 99.9% reduction of PFAS, VOCs, pharmaceuticals, pesticides and chlorine, and greater than 99% of lead and heavy metals.
Adds fluoride and arsenic reduction
The PF-2 filters in this bundle thread onto the Black Berkey elements and target the two things the main elements are not designed for.
Works with no electricity or plumbing
Gravity does the work. Set it on any counter, fill the top, and it keeps producing clean water through a power outage or a boil notice.
Built in stainless, warranted for life
304 stainless chambers, hardware and the upgraded spigot are covered for life. Filters are the only thing you ever replace.
What the bundle does
Two filtration stages, one finishing touch. Gravity does the work.
Pour tap water into the top chamber. It passes through the Black Berkey elements, then through the PF-2 filters, and collects in the lower chamber. No pressure, no pump, no power outage problem.
Black Berkey Purification Elements
Independent lab testing shows reduction of 200+ contaminants, including:
- PFAS, greater than 99.9%
- Lead and heavy metals, greater than 99%
- Chlorine, chloramine, VOCs, greater than 99.9%
- Pharmaceuticals, herbicides and pesticides, greater than 99.9%
- Rated for 6,000 gallons per pair before replacement
PF-2 Fluoride & Arsenic Filters
Black Berkey elements do not target fluoride. The PF-2 does. It threads directly onto each element, no tools needed.
- Reduces fluoride and arsenic that Stage 1 leaves behind
- Rated for roughly 1,000 gallons per pair, or about a year for a typical family
- The most common add-on to a Big Berkey at our store
- Skip it if your water is unfluoridated well water
Stainless Steel Spigot
The one upgrade that changes how the system looks on your counter. Food-grade 304 stainless that matches the chambers, so the whole Berkey reads as one piece of steel. Same lifetime warranty as the housing.
Reduces more than ordinary filters
What this bundle takes out of your water.
A pitcher filter mostly improves taste. A Berkey is tested as a purifier. Figures below are from independent laboratory testing of the Black Berkey element and the PF-2 filter.

What it is really for
Every bottle, every pot of coffee, every glass at bedtime. Poured without a second thought.
Most people do not buy a Berkey for the lab numbers. They buy it for the moment they stop wondering. Formula mixed at 2 am. The kids filling their own cups. Soup, rice, tea, the dog bowl. One counter-top system covers all of it, and it keeps working when the power or the water main does not.
Build my Big Berkey bundleThe math most people never run
Cheaper per gallon than a pitcher. Far cheaper than bottled.
A pair of Black Berkey elements is rated for 6,000 gallons. Most households replace them every 3 to 5 years, not every 40 gallons.
| Source | What you replace | Approx. cost per gallon | Per year, family of 4* |
|---|---|---|---|
| Bottled water (cases) | Every case | $1.00 to $1.50 | $1,100 to $1,650 |
| Filter pitcher | Cartridge every 40 gal | $0.15 to $0.25 | $165 to $275 |
| Reverse osmosis (under sink) | Membrane + pre-filters yearly, plus install | $0.10 to $0.20 | $110 to $220 |
| Big Berkey | Elements every 6,000 gal, PF-2 yearly | $0.03 + $0.10 | About $135 |
*Assumes roughly 3 gallons of drinking and cooking water per day. Berkey figure: $166 per element pair over 6,000 gallons plus $103 per PF-2 pair per 1,000 gallons. Competitor figures are typical retail ranges and will vary by brand and region.

Not sure the Big Berkey is your size?
Pick by how many people drink from it.
Every model uses the same Black Berkey elements and the same PF-2 filters. Only the chamber size and the number of elements change, and every one takes the same spigot and PF-2 bundle. The Big Berkey is the one we recommend most because it fits a standard counter and covers most households.

Before you order
Questions people ask on the phone.
Do I really need the PF-2 fluoride filters?
If your water comes from a municipal system, it is probably fluoridated, and the Black Berkey elements alone do not target fluoride. If you are on a private well with no fluoride, you can skip them. Either way, you can add PF-2 filters later; they thread onto the existing elements in about a minute.
Why upgrade the spigot to stainless?
Every Berkey ships with a quality standard spigot, and plenty of owners keep it for years. The stainless spigot is a finish upgrade: food-grade 304 steel that matches the chambers, so the whole system reads as one piece of stainless on the counter. It also carries the same lifetime warranty as the housing. It is the single most common add-on we sell.
How fast does it filter?
With 2 elements the Big Berkey filters up to 3.5 gallons per hour; with 4 elements, up to 7. Most families fill it at night and in the morning and never wait on it.
How often do I replace filters, and what does that cost?
A pair of Black Berkey elements is rated for 6,000 gallons, typically 3 to 5 years for a family of four. A pair of PF-2 filters is rated for about 1,000 gallons, roughly a year. Current replacement pricing is $166 for the elements and $103 for a PF-2 pair.
Will it fit under my kitchen cabinets?
The Big Berkey is 19.25 inches tall and 8.5 inches wide. Standard cabinet clearance is 18 inches, so most people set it at the end of the counter, on an island, or on the optional stainless wire stand. If clearance is tight, the Travel Berkey fits at 18 inches.
Is the price the same everywhere?
Berkey pricing is set by the manufacturer, so the system costs the same at every authorized dealer. What differs is what you get with it: the bundle savings, free express shipping, U.S. stock that ships today, and support from a dealer who has sold Berkey since 2008.
