Berkey Phoenix Filter Elements and PF-2 Fluoride Filters Combo

Black Berkey filter elements are temporarily unavailable due to an EPA regulatory matter. The Berkey Phoenix New Millennium Edition is the current in-stock filter element, made by the same manufacturer, NMCL, and is a direct drop-in replacement for any existing Berkey system. Phoenix filters work with the same PF-2 fluoride filters, which is why this combo is the equivalent two-stage solution.

Phoenix elements run on their own as a complete upper-chamber filtration stage. PF-2 filters are optional add-ons that screw onto the bottom of the Phoenix elements to specifically reduce fluoride and provide additional arsenic reduction. If your municipal water supply does not fluoridate, you may not need PF-2 filters. If your water is fluoridated or you want maximum arsenic reduction, the combo gives you both stages in one order.

Phoenix elements are rated for 5,500 gallons per set of two. PF-2 filters are rated for 1,000 gallons per set of two. In practical terms for an average household, Phoenix elements typically last a few years before requiring replacement, while PF-2 filters typically need replacement once a year depending on usage and water quality. PF-2 filters always reach end-of-life before Phoenix elements do.

Yes. Phoenix filter elements are NSF/ANSI 42 certified (aesthetic effects, including chlorine reduction) and NSF/ANSI/CAN 372 certified (lead-free materials). Phoenix elements have also been independently lab-tested by EPA-accredited and NSF-accredited laboratories for a broader range of contaminants. Yes. The Phoenix and PF-2 combo is compatible with all stainless steel Berkey systems, including Go Berkey Kit, Travel Berkey, Big Berkey, Royal Berkey, Imperial Berkey, and Crown Berkey. Phoenix is a direct drop-in replacement that uses the same chamber threading and footprint as Black Berkey. No system modifications are required.

PF-2 filters screw directly onto the threaded stem at the bottom of each Phoenix element. Prime both filter types first per the included instructions, then assemble the Phoenix element with the PF-2 attached, and install in the upper chamber as you would any Berkey filter. The PF-2 sits in the lower chamber while the Phoenix element sits in the upper chamber.

The lifetime warranty applies to the stainless steel chambers and hardware of the Berkey system itself, not to consumable filter elements.
