Big Berkey Water Filter
Sized for households of 1 to 4 people
2.25 gallons of filtered water on hand • Up to 7 gallons per hour • No plumbing, no electricity
Our Most Popular Berkey
The Big Berkey is the size most households choose: 2.25 gallons of filtered water in a compact 8.5 inch footprint. It filters fast, expands to 4 elements, and gravity does all the work.
Reduces 200+ Contaminants
Reduces PFAS, lead, chlorine, VOCs, pesticides, pharmaceuticals and more from treated tap and well water, while leaving beneficial minerals in.
The Right Size for Most Homes
2.25 gallons covers drinking, cooking and coffee for 1 to 4 people. At 19.25 inches tall and 8.5 inches wide, it has a small footprint. It stands just over the standard 18 inch space under upper cabinets, so place it at the end of a counter or on an island.
Fast, Expandable Filtration
Up to 3.5 gallons per hour with 2 elements. Add 2 more for up to 7 gallons per hour when your household needs more.
No Plumbing, No Power
Nothing to install and nothing to plug in. Fill the top chamber with tap water and filtered water collects below, ready at the spigot.
About 2 Cents a Gallon
Replacement elements work out to about 2 cents per gallon. A family that drinks bottled water spends hundreds a year; the Big Berkey pays for itself quickly.
Built to Last Decades
Polished 304 stainless steel, backed by our Exclusive Lifetime Warranty on the stainless steel and hardware when you buy here.

Big Berkey FAQ
How many people is the Big Berkey right for?
The Big Berkey is recommended for 1 to 4 people. It holds 2.25 gallons of filtered water, enough for most small households to drink and cook with throughout the day.
Should I buy the Big Berkey or the Royal Berkey?
The Big Berkey holds 2.25 gallons and suits 1 to 4 people. The Royal holds 3.25 gallons and suits 2 to 6. For a household of 3 or 4, either works; choose the Royal if you have the counter space, since you will refill it less often.
Why is the Phoenix edition less expensive?
It is the same polished stainless system with the same Exclusive Lifetime Warranty from us. The Phoenix element costs less to produce, and that saving is passed through to you. It is not a lower grade of system.
Is there a difference between the Phoenix and Black Berkey elements?
Both are independently tested across hundreds of contaminants, and the results are close. Phoenix tests higher in some categories and Black Berkey in others. Black Berkey is rated for a few more gallons (6,000 vs 5,500 per pair) and has a longer element warranty. Phoenix is newer, faster flowing, NSF listed at the system level and costs less.
If I buy the Black Berkey edition, what happens when I need replacements?
Black Berkey elements are not sold separately right now, so your replacements will be Berkey Phoenix elements, an exact fit at $120 a pair. Choose auto-ship in Step 2 and they arrive on your schedule.
Which filter elements come with it?
You choose in Step 1: the Phoenix Edition with 2 or 4 Phoenix elements, or the Original Edition with 2 Black Berkey elements while supply lasts. The Big Berkey holds up to 4 elements. Replacements for either edition are Berkey Phoenix elements, an exact fit.
How long do the filters last, and what do replacements cost?
A pair of Black Berkey elements is rated for 6,000 gallons. A pair of Berkey Phoenix replacement elements is $120 and rated for 5,500 gallons, which works out to about 2 cents per gallon. Running 4 elements doubles the gallons before replacement.
Does the Big Berkey reduce fluoride?
Fluoride reduction requires the optional PF-2 Fluoride and Arsenic filters, which are not included. The Big Berkey holds up to 4 PF-2 filters in the lower chamber, one for each element above. A pair is $103 and rated for 1,000 gallons or 1 year, whichever comes first.
What is included, and what is the warranty?
You get both stainless steel chambers, the lid, 2 or 4 elements, a spigot, a rubber base, blocking plugs, a primer kit and a red dye test. Every system from BigBerkeyWaterFilters.com comes with our Exclusive Lifetime Warranty on the stainless steel and hardware, available only from us.
