The Importance of an Emergency Water Filter
By Dan DeBaunShare
Over the last 2 months, we've watched some serious disasters unfold. We've had the major earthquake in Japan, deadly tornadoes across many states in the US, and now we are watching the Mississippi river flooding, seen as the worst experienced in 50-100 years. With all of these disasters unfolding before our eyes, it makes many wonder; How prepared is my family in case of an emergency or disaster? Basics supplies like emergency food storage or an emergency water filter are necessities, but are typically overlooked by the average citizen.
Emergency Food Storage
Having even a small supply of storable food on hand can make a difficult time that much easier to manage. Most long term food storage preparation only requires boiling water to achieve readiness. Recently we announced that we would be carrying a line of emergency food storage products called Wise food storage. This was at the request of many of our customers who were interested in us pairing our berkey water filter line with a long term food storage solution. Wise food storage carries a shelf life of 25 years, costs only about $1.60 per serving, comes in easy to store buckets, and tastes delicious. We've had great feedback from customers who have tried the product so far, and we're happy to make this available.
Emergency Water Filter
We're all familiar with the fact that water is the most critical component of any disaster survival. However, it's still surprising that many folks have not appropriately planned for it. A quality water filter or pre-treatment tablets for contaminated water are a must. Pre-treatment tablets kill bacteria and viruses, are inexpensive, and easy to store and transport. We also believe a portable water filter is an ideal solution. They typically last for hundreds and sometimes thousands of gallon, and can be taken with you as changing disaster conditions warrant. The berkey water filter is considered one of the best gravity water filters on the market removing bacteria and contaminants at 99.999% and higher levels. In addition, the set of black berkey filters that come standard with every system will last for approximately 6000 gallons.
Disaster Preparedness
The essence of most disasters is that they are hard to predict and they come about very quickly. Attempting to react when a disaster becomes apparent leaves you at the mercy of competing with other citizens also trying to protect themselves. Limited quantities of survival supplies in the stores means only a lucky few get a hold of them. The key to survival is disaster preparedness. It is simple and easy, and takes only a little bit of planning. However, this little bit of planning will translate into peace of mind and family security in the case of any future disasters. Quality disaster supplies should last a minimum of 10 years, and when making your selection, try to seek out items that will last longer as there are many on the market. This will ensure that your financial investment in emergency food storage or an emergency water filter will provide a long return potential.
