Recently we were contacted by Kay Mahoney, who has written a new survival novel called, Collapse: You’re On Your Own. Kay is a new novelist and firm believer in self-responsibility. She is also a Berkey water filter owner and mentions the systems in her new book. She has done extensive research on the effects of an EMP and preparedness and since a segment of our customer base purchases berkey systems in anticipation of such a potential event, we'd thought we'd share her work with our readers. The following is from Kay herself:

"Collapse: You’re On Your Own is a fictional story of the fight for survival after an EMP knocks out the nation’s electrical grid. Based in north Louisiana and the small community of Hasty, Arkansas, the main character, Sunday Duncan was prepared when the EMP hit. She owns a Big Berkey water filter, along with twelve extra filter elements. The character realizes that contaminated water kills more people than anything else and intends for her family to survive.

An excerpt; 'They could filter the water for drinking and cooking with the Big Berkey water filter. Sunday had purchased twelve, extra filter elements. They’d make sure there was no debris in the water before pouring it into the Big Berkey. The filter elements were cleanable, too. All one needed was a Scotch-Brite pad or a toothbrush. Sunday had those items.'

The novel is about everyday people with ordinary lives and is story of survival, love, death, and hope. It is available at Amazon and other online booksellers and soon will also be available in ebook form."
